Foundation Vidanta Award 2016 Winners.

First Prize: Una Brisa de Esperanza.

Brisa De Esperanza began its activity in 2004 in Cochabamba, Bolivia in order to help eradicate sexual violence and restore the lives and rights of children and adolescents victims of sexual violence. It provides free legal, social, psychological, and medical services to more than 1,450 children and adolescents. It trains judges, prosecutors, police members, forensic doctors, legislators, educators, and students on how to proceed in cases of sexual assault against children and adolescents.

Second Prize: Fundación Civil Proyecto Alcatraz.

LNGO Alcatraz Project emerged within the company Ron Santa Teresa, as an immediate response to a criminal act in the municipality of Revenga, one of the municipalities with the most unequal distribution of wealth in Venezuela, which then evolved into a social project which seeks create an atmosphere of greater security in the town, increase its associative capacity and facilitate social and economic development, targeted towards the culture of peace and principles of nonviolence and equality in Venezuela.

The project works to reduce crime and combat poverty in risk areas through sport and education of the household, the dissemination of knowledge and tools for social rehabilitation and strengthening of morality, ethics and positive values for life.

Third Prize: Joven es Yucatán.

In 2004, the Foundation Joven es Yucatán began the ecological-environmental and economic-cultural project called "Yucatan Mayan Designs" with the aim of sustainably exploit the fruits of native trees endangered. The Foundation trains people regarding the use of these fruits through arts and crafts workshops with jicaras, lek and calabazos in order to reap the fruits of these trees. To date it has directly benefited more than 3,000 people and indirectly to 8,850 people in the Mayan communities have formed 14 groups of artisans selling crafts and planted more than 3,500 trees.

Jury meeting

The Panel of Judges for the Fundacion Vidanta Award met on September 9 in Nuevo Nayarit, Mexico, to choose the winning institutions for the corresponding prizes for the year 2016. The Panel was comprised of: Cynthia Arnson, Rolando Cordera, Luis Maira, José Luis Machinea and Julio María Sanguinetti.
