The Seminar took place on March 28 and 29, 2019 with the propose to analyze, in a comparative way, the cases of Argentina, Brazil and Mexico in the areas of work, income, education and discrimination. The questions that guided this seminar were: what have been the main changes in employment conditions from the 2000s to the present?; What has been the evolution of income inequality in the last 20 years?; To what extent do social inequalities become educational inequalities?; And in what ways do ethnic discrimination and racism contribute to the reproduction of social inequality in each country?
The seminar was divided into 4 tables, which were formed as follows:
Table 1 on "Work and inequalities" was moderated by Melina Altamirano (COLMEX) and was attended by Agustín Salvia from Argentina (UCA / UBA); Helena Hirata and Barbara Castro from Brazil (CNRS / UNICAMP); and Carlos Alba and Mauricio Rodríguez from Mexico (COLMEX / UDLAP). The comments for this table were made by Laura Juárez (COLMEX) and David Kaplan (IDB Mexico).
Table 2 on "Inequalities in admission" was moderated by Alice Krozer, (COLMEX). It was attended by Jesica Plá from Argentina (UBA); Celi Scalon of Brazil (UFRJ); and Raymundo Campos de México (COLMEX). The comments on table 2 were made by Juan Carlos Moreno Brid (UNAM) and Rodolfo de la Torre (CEEY).
Table 3 on "Education and inequalities" was moderated by Laura Flamand (COLMEX), while the presentations were given by Juan Piovani of Argentina (UNLP); Carlos Costa Ribeiro of Brazil (UERJ); and Emilio Blanco of Mexico (COLMEX). The commentators at this table were Roberto Rodríguez (UNAM) and Rosa María Torres (UPN).
Table 4 on "Discrimination and inequality" was moderated by Rosario Aparicio (COLMEX), and was attended by Ezequiel Ipar of Argentina (UBA); Carlos Costa Ribeiro of Brazil (UERJ); and Patricio Solís de Mexico (COLMEX). For this table, the comments were made by Rosario Aguilar (CIDE) and Jacqueline L´Hoist (CDHDF).
