Asia and Latin America in the New Century

The relations between Asia and Latin America are closer than at any time in recent history. In circumstances like this, systematic reflection and analysis about which direction to take is essential. There is extensive literature on Sino-Latin American relations; some research (especially in the 80s and 90s) about relations with Japan; and relations between India and Latin America are recently beginning to arouse interest. However, a broader reflection of the direction, the pace, and the meaning of the links between Latin America and Asia are still needed.

The objective of this project is to make a contribution to fill this void and start a substantive debate among Latin American and Asian academics on the theme. Is it necessary to steer these links in a certain direction or not? How to take advantage of today’s great economic opportunities in the best way? Is it possible to transform these opportunities into lasting benefits for the region?
